Historical Note: Hale Smith (1925-2009) was an American composer, pianist, educator. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Smith studied at the Cleveland Institute of Music, earning his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music. Smith taught at C.W. Post College and the University of Connecticut.
