Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson, a composer, conductor, and pianist, was born in New York City on June 14, 1932. A founding member and associate conductor of the Symphony for the New World, his career as a composer included activities in classical music, jazz, and film and television. The Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson collection includes documentation relating to performances and press coverage of Perkinson’s musical activities in New York and abroad.

The Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson collection (1949-1994) includes programs, scrapbook, clippings, correspondence, and concert announcements, relating to performances and press coverage of Perkinson’s musical activities in New York and abroad from his adolescence onward.

Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson, a composer, conductor, and pianist, was born in New York City on June 14, 1932. He attended the High School of Music and Art and the Manhattan School of Music, receiving his Bachelor of Music in 1953, and his Master’s degree the following year. He studied conducting at Princeton University, Tanglewood, and at summer festivals in Europe. A founding member and associate conductor of the Symphony for the New World, his career as a composer included activities in classical music, jazz, and film and television.

The is also a folder of materials relating to the educational and musical work of Perkinson’s mother, and a folder of material seemingly unrelated to Perkinson, largely consisting of material about jazz musician Billy Taylor.
