Radio scripts from the 1982 radio show, “The Music of Black America.”
Scope and Contents of the Materials
This collection contains scripts from the radio program, “The Music of Black America.” The first folder of the collection contains a preliminary outline of the show’s segments, and the remaining folders contain the scripts of the segments themselves. The collection appears to be lacking the script for one of the 24 episodes.
Collection Historical Note
“The Music of Black America” was a radio show written and produced in Los Angeles. The program was presented in 24 one hour episodes, and was aired nationally on syndicated radio in conjunction with Black Music Month during May and June of 1982. The program was hosted by J.J. Johnson (a Los Angeles radio personality) and Lou Rawls. The donor of the collection, Al Cunningham, was the show’s principal writer and producer.
